(I don't often agree with Kenny, but this piece is spot on. - promoted by Isaac Smith)
Straight up, there is a lot at stake if the Prince George's Hospital System shuts down. A lot of county residents will have to go elsewhere for health care, miles away from the current facility in most cases. Trauma patients from Prince George's, Anne Arundel and Southern Maryland will be flying to other hospitals, more than likely Southern Maryland Hospital and Maryland Shock Trauma which can mean life and death in in mere seconds. It will be a complete tragic disaster.I am not going to mince words when I say that our county leaders, ALL OF THEM, have failed while our state leaders, including Governor Martin O'Malley, have shown leadership. |

Rumors have been circulating that State Senator Patrick Hogan is considering a high paying position with the Univesity of Maryland System. Senator Hogan is a former Republican who switched parties in order to keep his seat in an increasingly Democratic district. Not being a progressive, Hogan is known to be a key ally of Senate President Mike Miller. The Montgomery County Democratic central committee will decided his replacement. Who they choose reflects the political direction for the party. |

(Good reminder of a looming political battle. - promoted by Isaac Smith)
Gay pride parades has come and gone. The 40th anniversary of Loving v. Virginia has come and gone, striking down the laws against interracial marriage. In the past few days we have seen some action in New York (the House passed a gay marriage bill, now we need the Senate), and some recognition through a review process that New Jersey's civil unions are not equal to marriage, even on the state level, which will likely be remanded to the legislature to fix (again). Massachussetts could not even come up with 50 out of almost 200 Legislators to put an anti-gay-marriage amendment on the ballot. So where are we in Maryland? |

Okay Western MD Dems! This is your chance to take out the Republican for good! Maryland is hot this up coming election not just for the presidental race but 3 Dems are going to fight it out in the 4th, 1st, and 6th districts againist Reps, who have been in office a very long time! We need freah faces and ideas to battle the furture of the country! Do not take those running lightly! They need money, support, and blogging! Having met all three, I was impressed by their drive and grassroots support that they have built and are building! Pop on to their web sites and drop them a line or a little cash. The big R party had the money piece down pat and we Dems need to step up to the plate and help out! most of those running have events going on all around the state and are more then willing to speak to anyone about current issues and ways to improve the running of the House! While attending the KOS fund raiser, I was able to speak with both Edwards and Duck. Both gave wonderful short speechs ( the room was very very hot) about the attack of our rights as members of the USA and we take these rights for granted! Very impressive and MD has a lot to proud of! So come on guys! Let's pitch in somehow to help these office seekers! Let us do Maryland proud and turn the whole state BLUE!!! |

National Journal's House Race Hotline (subscription) reports that annoying conservative Roscoe Bartlett will run for another term. Challenges from Andrew Duck (D) and a Republican ex-Mayor are expected to the outlier in the Maryland congressional delegation. No "Vacancy" "In an attempt to lay retirement rumors to rest," Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R) filed papers last week to seek a 9th term. "A vacancy ... would probably set off a huge scramble" on the GOP side, with Bartlett's son, state Del. Joseph Bartlett (R) "among those in contention." But the elder Bartlett "probably can hold the seat for as long as he wants it." He will have "at least one" GOP primary challenger in ex-Cumberland Mayor Frank Nethken, and '06 nominee/Iraq war vet. Andrew Duck (D) "is expected to try again" in '08 (Kurtz, Roll Call, 6/5).

My friend JanetTinMd, a Yearly Carnacki veteran, made an excellent point at Booman Tribune that the schedule was too ambitious to squeeze in the National Zoo and and Smithsonian Museum in one day. So see revised schedule below.
Schedule and details below. |

Back in the mid-seventies, when I was a kid growing up in Puerto Rico, my parents once took a long, ambitious vacation to various places in South America. When they got back they brought lots of great pictures and plenty of stories to tell. One of them has stuck with me to this day, and indeed played a significant part in my political development. What's scary is how applicable it is to 2007 America. |

Today a 4th state has approved civil unions for gays and lesbians (others are Vermont, Connecticut and New Jersey). This is in addition to Massachussetts having gay marriage. California has domestic partnerships, soon to be followed by Washington and Oregon. Rhode Island and New York will likely have something before long.
Here in Maryland we have.....nothing. Marriage bills have been introduced yearly in our legislature since at least 1994 (when I testified very large with child). |

South Arundel Citizens for Responsible Development (SACReD) has been one of the most (if not the most) successful local anti-sprawl organizations in Anne Arundel County. They have a track record of keeping South Anne Arundel County rural. Now as new threats emerge, they step up the pressure by focusing on the lending practices of local banks. |

(As I note in the comments, this is not a rumor but a fact: Donna Edwards is filing in Annapolis today, and the 2008 campaign is on! - promoted by MoCoPolitics)
I just heard that Donna Edwards, the surprise near upset challenger to Al Wynn (D MD-04), is filing to run again in 2008. No sign yet of the official announcement on the website. |
